Life in Russia is hard – but Wiebe’s sense of humour and irony make life more bearable.  



"No laughter without sadness”, says Wiebe. “Because humour always needs a contrast”.

Plenty of contrast there is, in the life of a debutante, of a foreign acting student in Jelzin’s Russia. “On stage, we wore extremely expensive, funny and colourful costumes, playing parts in fairy tales. But on the way home, we saw people begging for money, barely able to survive the hunger and cold.
